Steel and Sonic

Steel the Lucario and Sonic the Lucario! Doin' a lineup type thing.

Steel's a martial artist and warrior, a trainer of other pokemon, and humans if they're interested, and a mega hardass. Originally the character was conceived as a boy, and then I realized there was no reason to keep her a boy, and so she's a girl now.

Hmm...that grey looks a bit too light on her. I'll hafta go darker next time!

Then we got Sonic here, bein' a dork. Cuz I so am. And more quadrupedal posture test. My fur has a really highly saturated blue color, and really vibrant gold. I'm a much brighter colored lucario than most.

Basically, in this universe pokemon do not look identical. Just about any color is possible for any pokemon, though colors close to the "official" are much more prevalent for any given species. So lucario often are a range of blues with gold and black markings, again in a range, but that doesn't mean they can't be other colors as well.

Okay, here we go! So the concept these are from are what later became New Normal! The idea was that for some reason I never really fleshed out, people started transforming into pokemon. The trigger on that was poke-speak--the first change would be that people would be speaking pokespeak, often without registering that was what was happening at first. The more they spoke, the more they'd transform. So the TF could complete in a manner of hours, or years, if the individual refused to speak...but every unconscious utterance would advance the transformation--groans, pain, speaking in your sleep...all of it would advance the changes.

Communication was gonna be a big theme, one of the challenges that my lucario self, James the Mewtwo, and Steel the Lucario would be working to overcome would be, in addition to learning to be pokemon, remastering their phonemes so they can learn to speak human languages again. Pokemon of any language of origin could understand one another via their now native pokespeak.

In this pokemon version, Steel saw my lucario self transforming while fully transformed herself and chose to evade. My lucario self later stumbled upon a Mewtwo news anchor, disguising himself as a human using his psychic abilities. Ultimately my lucario self ended up coaching other pokemon on how to remaster their phonemes. And once James eventually came out as a pokemon himself, he also taught large lectures to transformed pokemon to help them re-attain their human speech.

Basically, I ended up with a lot of story there, and a lot that I liked, but wanted to see if I could turn it into a non-fanfic story, since all the characters were already original. ^_^;; Over a decade later I'm posting old art on my website and writing this summary to avoid dealing with my writers block on writing what this story's become.
